Should you pay to fly your guests out to your wedding abroad?

If you decide to get married abroad it is most likely that you’ll be after a smaller ceremony rather than the traditional big white wedding with lots of guests (half of which you probably wouldn’t recognise if you passed them in the street!)

That said most people would still want close family and friends there on their special day, so should you factor the cost of the guests travel into your wedding budget?

It all depends on how you’d feel if the guests weren’t able to make it, if it would ruin your day not to have your parents there or your best friend there then it isn’t really fair to expect them to try to afford the trip themselves. Your best option is to talk to them about it and if you are struggling with your budget you could help to supplement their travel costs and see if they would be able to pay for the rest?

If you ask guests to pay for their own travel and accommodation then it’s only fair that you factor in the possibility that they may not be able to afford to come to your wedding.
