Are cheap flights causing health issues in the elderly?

In these recent troubled times we may all be longing to be able to jet off to the sun for a holiday abroad at some time in the future but when choosing our flights are we thinking about the possible detriment to our health that these journeys may be having. For most holidaymakers there is not a problem with travelling on one of the budget airlines but if you already have health concerns such as arthritis, age related joint pain or other problems with mobility the lack of legroom on most of the cheaper airlines can be an issue.

It is advisable if you have health concerns to choose seats when booking that state that they provide additional leg room as this can make the journey much more comfortable.

Short haul flights may not create too many difficulties but if you are contemplating a long haul flight the prospect of sitting in restricted surroundings for hours may cause you to be at risk of developing deep vein thrombosis which may not surface for several weeks after your flight. In order to avoid this the advice is to try to move around as much as you can during the flight and certainly every hour. If you are concerned about any health issues that may be heightened by flying it is wise to speak to your doctor before booking flights.
